Become a Mover
Drive with us. Removals work for women and non-binary movers.
You pick your own hours, take only the work you want, get paid well for your time and go home knowing you made somebody’s most stressful day a whole lot better.
Han With A Van is a network of self-employed women and non-binary movers working right across the UK. We find the clients, quote the jobs, take the money and handle the awkward conversations. You claim the jobs that suit you, do the move, and get paid. No boss, no rota, no minimum or maximum hours.
What you’ll do:
- Domestic moves. Rooms in flatshares, studio flats and small 1-2 bedroom places, local and long haul.
- You claim the jobs you want. Nothing gets assigned to you, and there’s no minimum or maximum expectations
- You work alongside the client all day, carrying boxes, keeping her calm and finding solutions to problems along the way. You’re the muscle and the big sister on the ground.
- We pay you every week, so you’re not chasing money for a job you did a month ago.
- Your diary is your own. Only take the jobs you can commit to, and invoice us for the right work each week.
What we’ll need from you:
- A full UK driving licence, and confidence driving a van up to extra-long wheelbase
- A van of your own, or a willingness to hire one for each job
- Self-employment registration, so you can invoice us and get paid
- Your own public liability insurance (up to £1m)
- Your own kit: sack truck, packing blankets, ratchet straps and bungee ropes
- Two references, and the right to work in the UK
What we bring:
- The clients, all the quoting and booking admin.
- Goods in transit cover up to £10,000 on the van while you’re working a job for us
- Training to our standard, and a handbook that answers almost every question before you even have to ask
- A group of women doing the same job, and somebody to ring if anything goes sideways
- We will always back you. If a home feels wrong or there’s a surprise when you get there, you call us and we figure it out together. We don’t send anyone into a job Hannah wouldn’t have done herself.
Before you fill anything in:
This is self-employed work with no guaranteed hours and no promise of a minimum income. Some weeks are busy and some are quiet. You are responsible for your own costs, your own tax and your own insurance. This suits you if you’re already self-employed or have lots of free time and you’re looking for additional income. It doesn’t suit you if you need a guaranteed pay packet next month.
We do want you to be strong, but the bigger part of this job is taking care of people on their most stressful day. Beyond anything else, we need you to really, really care.
From Hannah. I interview every single person who applies to be a mover and it’s mainly for the vibe check. Yes, you need to be physically capable of shifting a sofa down some narrow stairs. Yes, you need to be happy driving a large van round some fairly tight corners. But more than anything else, you need to be someone’s rock when they’re losing their mind. You need to be fully on top of your diary so no one is let down, warm in your messaging before the move day so they feel safe, super supportive and wholesome on the day and really come across like you have your shit together and you can solve any problem. If you can do all that, I’d absolutely love to have you on board.
